I somehow got unsubscribed and then resubscribed through the identification process I went through (can tell you more if you want) but I am definitely into your new approach! A bit of literature, a bit of history, plus the travel writing...welcome back!
Hi Betty! Oh, I get unsubscribed from people's newsletters and I can't figure out why! I hate it, because sometimes I'm too embarrassed to resubscribe...I don't want people to think I unsubscribed on purpose. Was the identification process to do with my newsletter, or Substack in general?? Thanks for the welcome back! =)
Hi Jodi. It’s hard to say. It could have been connected to your newsletter, but it could be random verification being used by Substack to avoid the spammy garbage that is starting to come up. It was the first time I’d seen it.
What happened is, I wanted to leave a comment, and as I started there was a pop-up asking me to enter a 6-digit (I think 6) code that had been sent to my email. I went to my email and waited a few minutes and no code came through. I tried again and still no code came through.
I waited a few minutes, finally got a code, but when I entered it it wasn’t the right one (I had probably waited too long, or it was waiting to send the second code.) And then I noticed the “SUBSCRIBE” button was appearing and I realized I had been unsubscribed during the process. So I just subscribed again.
As one of your very appreciative gentleman readers, I can report I’ll be sticking around, Jodi. Love the angle you’ve chosen and the intention to stay with long reads and the ‘how’ and ‘why’ … as I have been pondering how to write up our Autumn rail travels, I am nudged towards the ‘how’ and ‘why’ too … a gentleman’s account with a lady’s sensibility, perhaps. I have already resolved to add an epistolary angle by writing letters (actual handwritten ones) to myself and others as we travel. Postcards too.
Anyhoo, thanks so much for the inspiration. We’ll be reading avidly! Barrie and JoJo
Yay! I know that the "how" and "why" quote is a very broad generalization, and probably more descriptive of Victorian writing than modern! It's good to hear that you'll be writing actual letters - especially to yourself. I kick myself for every day I traveled without keeping a handwritten journal. It'll never happen again. Writing letters to yourself is such a good idea! Thanks, you guys, for reading...I'm so looking forward to following your travels this fall!
