York is one of my favorite places to visit in the UK. FYI...Clifford's Tower was part of a huge castle complex in 11th-14th centuries (and beyond). An amazing place. Check out this diorama - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:York_Castle_diorama.JPG
What a lovely piece! It's always good to see ourselves through the eyes of others. And you have chosen well in York. It will spoil you for other Northern cities, I fear. Go to the City Art Gallery for sure. It's one of the best regional galleries in the UK and their ceramics section is amazing. And I think its still free.
Thank you so much! I have to admit, I love English towns much more than cities - but I'll make an exception for York and Bath! I loved the art gallery, I fell in love with the work of Elizabeth Fritsch there, whose ceramics blow me away.
This is lovely. As someone who was born in Yorkshire and now lives in Newcastle, I can say that many people in other parts of the country struggle with the accents. But I love seeing our weird little culture from an outsiders perspective!
Thank you so much! It's the weird little things that I love the most. I went north after York, stayed just south of Newcastle. I loved it up there - and thought the Northumberland coast was absolutely one of the most beautiful parts of the country!
This is a lovely piece..York is a great city, did you explore the galleries and museums? We used to know it well, haven't been for a while though...thank you for the memories.
Thank you so much! Yes, I loved the York Art Gallery even though I had just missed a show about the Bloomsbury Group. But I was really blown away by the National Railway Museum, I think because it is not necessarily the kind of museum I'm usually interested in. It was wonderful!
My home town. Sigh. So many memories. Currently living in Italy so I miss York A LOT.
It is a special place. 💕
I was there in May, and loved it! And you've got some really beautiful photos of the city there.
There are, I think, only three things I really miss about England - Fish & Chips, the beer, and the church bells.
This was such fun - and made me laugh several times with your percipient but affectionate eye for the bizarreness and charm....
Such a beautiful city. Our eldest daughter r to Uni of York and she now loves it as much as we do too. Great piece on a brilliant city.

There's so much history in York - I could have gone on forever!
So true!
I’ll take ALL the sauces lol!
Lol! That would be one way to solve the mystery, wouldn't it?
