I LOVED the tour! Such beautiful buildings. Nothing today is built with a grace and beauty that even comes close! And, the information on the authors! Bravo!
So wonderful! It makes me long to make a tour of all of them—
And btw “St Bede” was an answer in a NYT crossword recently. I didn’t get it for quite awhile because I too thought “venerable” was a part of his name! 😁
It’s strange because I grew up a bus ride away and was always intrigued by it because the exterior of the building is such a beautiful colour and design, but I had never been in. Sounds silly, but I didn’t know if I was allowed to, if it was a private building. Then last year I finally looked into it, purposely visited. I adored all the walk ways inside. The arches and ceilings. It’s a wonderful example of architecture and beauty.
It's funny, sometimes it's the things that are closest to us that are the last we visit! It truly is beautiful, and when I visited they had some wonderful exhibitions on, too.
Such beautiful places! I've visited a few of them and all the rest are on my ever-growing "must visit" list. Near the top of the list is the chained library at Hereford Cathedral. I've taken a tour of the chained library in Wells Cathedral and it was fascinating so I'm eager to find more to explore.
Oh, I missed the one in Wells! I think they're fascinating too - and if you're like me, you probably wanted to reach over the barrier and grab one of the books to look a little closer. :)

And craftmanship! That's the thing that always gets me. Thank you for the kind words, Jim!!
If you love Durham Cathedral you must read Cuddy, by Benjamin Myers
Oh, thank you for the recommendation - it looks fascinating!

That's so funny! I think he lucked out - if you're going to have an adjective stick with you for eternity, it could be worse than venerable!
Wonderful! Thank you for the portal.
Thank you for reading!
Love the history and your incredible photos, Jodi, as usual!!!
Ah, thank you so much Jeanine!!
A lovely post, thank you for sharing. I’ve been to some of them and John Rylands is a favourite.
Thank you Julie!! I wish I lived close to the Rylands library, you couldn't pull me away. :)
