Dear readers,
It’s hard for me to believe, but I’m coming up on the two-year anniversary of this newsletter. Two years!
And, it seems, I’ve got the two-year itch.
It’s time to do a little spring cleaning, and I think I’m ready for a make-over, too. So, I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be taking a little break. I’ll be back very soon, with a new look - and possibly with a new name.
To be clear, I’m just changing my decor - the content that you’ve subscribed to will remain the same, although I may expand on that a bit, too.
Because I’m taking a little break, I’m putting paid memberships on hold until I return.
To be honest, I struggle a little bit with the idea of paid content. I love my paid subscribers and appreciate your support SO MUCH, but it always niggles at me a little bit when I put anything I write behind a paywall. Because I appreciate my free subscribers, too.
So, when I return, all posts will be free to all subscribers. They’ll go behind an archive paywall after a month. Paid subscribers will have full access to the archive, and, of course, my eternal gratitude for your support!
In the meantime, I’m opening my whole archive up to all subscribers. Here are a few posts you may have missed:
Charleston Farmhouse
In which I visit the house that was the heart and soul of the Bloomsbury Group.
The Fortuny Museum, Venice
In which I visit the home and studio of the glorious Mariano Fortuny, and secretly wish they would let me move in.
Snowshill Manor
In which I "meet" the extraordinary Charles Paget Wade, and explore his incredible collections in the Cotswolds.
Étretat
In which I uncover the story of Claude Monet's stay in this seaside town, and walk the cliffs that inspired him.
The Mosaics of Ravenna
In which I learn that Dante is buried in Ravenna, and visit the mosaics that thrilled Gustav Klimt, Carl Jung, and every art history major ever (including yours truly).
Bath Abbey Cemetery
In which I contemplate the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi in England's greatest Georgian city.
Jean-Henri-Louis Le Secq des Tournelles and His Museum
In which I "meet" the fascinating 19th-century photographer Jean-Henri-Louis Le Secq des Tournelles and visit his unusual collection.
Thank you as always for reading! Is it getting close enough that I can say happy spring?!
Happy Spring, and I will see you soon,
XOXO
Hi Jodie, it must be the time of the year to take a break. I have decided after my last post next week that I will also be taking a break, but an extended one as I have been finding that Substack somehow is taking over my life. I have enjoyed the friendships made, but I feel I need to get back to living a freer life and return to my art room which has been severely neglected over the past months. You know I always enjoy reading your articles, so enjoy your change and no doubt I will sneak a look from time to time. Hugs 🤗💐
I struggle too with paid content--as there are only so many anyone could possibly afford. Beautiful photos, and I suspect, wise decision.
